Matthew Dicus Capps (born September 3, 1983 in Douglasville, Georgia), nicknamed "The Mad Capper," is a Major League Baseball closer who is currently playing for the Minnesota Twins. 2006 The beginning of the 2006 season saw Capps break spring training with the Pirates. In 85 games during the 2006 season, Capps pitched a total of 80.2 innings, striking out 56 batters, while only allowing 81 hits and 37 runs, for an ERA of 3.79. 2007 Capps began his second major league season as the sole eighth inning set-up man to Torres, and through the beginning of June, he was among Major League Baseball's leaders in holds. 2008 Capps started the 2008 season by earning 15 consecutive saves, before blowing his first save of the season on June 10. 2009 In 2009, Capps converted 27 of 32 save opportunities, with a 5.80 ERA. Capps was named the DHL Delivery Man Award winner for the month of April 2010, after recording ten saves (in ten opportunities) with an ERA of 0.68 for the month. He would convert his first 16 save opportunities of the season, en route to recording 23 saves in the season's opening half, good for a tie for second in the major leagues. Capps went on to be the winning pitcher in the game - the sixth hurler for the N.L., he struck out David Ortiz, looking at a 2-2 fastball, to end the sixth inning and hold the American Leaguers to a 1-0 lead.
